Alveoloplastyis an oral dental surgery intended to recontour the jawbone. Generally performed during a tooth extraction, it takes place where teeth have been extracted or lost. It helps create a level, smooth ridgeline along the roof or bottom of the mouth for effective transplant surgery or placement of a prosthesis, such as dentures. In most instances of alveoloplasty, a dentist makes an incision along the gum line. This allows the dentist easier access to the alveolar bone. A portion of the bone is then shaved down, followed by placement of a denture or a suture along the incision.
When people lose permanent teeth, a hole forms in the jawbone, causing high and low points. These ridges make it difficult for restorations such as dentures to fit properly. Instead, the prosthesis rubs against the high points and form sore spots. Over time, the toothless areas of the jaw lose substantial bone, leading to a thinning of the top ridge. The thinning makes the fitting of dentures a near impossible task.
Alveoloplasty帮助年代mooth out uneven areas so that the jaw is prepared to fit dentures. The surgical procedure also helps reduce bleeding and increase the speed of recovery after tooth extractions.
Thecost of the alveoloplastyis usually covered by your dental insurance plan or extended dental coverage.
